Have you ever heard of Juice Plus? From the word of supplements, Juice Plus (also called Juice Plus ) is often classified in general food supplement. Basically its content has the extracts of 17 different fruits and vegetables in capsule form – minus the fiber and water. This is the flagship supplement. Another product, Juice Plus Vineyard Blend, contains extracts of grapes and berries. Due to its lack of fiber and water, a greater concise explanation of Juice Plus can be quite a food extract supplement or phytonutrient supplement. Regardless of what you think of it, Juice Plus is intriguing for several reasons. 1. It has a simple method of nutrition i personally like; no stimulants or fancy ingredients, just extracts of common fruits and vegetables. 2. When I wrote this review there was over 10 studies on Juice Plus appearing in peer reviewed journals. Which enables Juice Plus different from most other similar products. So let’s look at the research on Juice Also in a neutral way. That way you can make an educated decision about whether it’s best for you. While no study has yet shown that Juice Plus reduces the chance of heart attacks, strokes or the growth of coronary disease, there were some intriguing findings which suggest it may well have some positive disease modifying effects.
A couple of early and small studies like the ones from Wise and associates (1996) learned that juice plus weight loss can cause boost in various vitamins and antioxidants like folic acid, vitamin E and phytonutrients like B carotene and lutein. While not even close to conclusive, in principle this could be a factor in reducing cardiovascular disease along with other health problems.
In 2007 Houston and associates tested Juice Plus (and the Vineyard Blend) to find out if it slowed the advancement of heart disease by measuring its result on hypertension and calcium in coronary arteries. Doctors sometimes measure the quantity of calcium in coronary arteries as an indicator of coronary disease progression.
Individuals inside the Juice Plus coronary calcium study were 51 people with high blood pressure and pre-high blood pressure (prehypertension). Individuals were given Juice Plus and followed for 2 years.
Theoretically, this appears to show Juice Plus helps slow some aspects in the creation of coronary disease. One issue with this research however was lacking a placebo group.
Interestingly hemoglobin A1C -a marker of diabetes progression – also decreased significantly. That is certainly good. Ironically, bad cholesterol (LDL), increased slightly, but significantly. That’s not good.
For some time it has been known that eating a very high fat meal causes vasoconstriction (closing up) of veins. In the study authored by Plotnick and associates in 2003, researchers looked at the result of Juice Plus and blood vessel health after people ate an increased fat meal.
After 4 weeks, those taking either Juice Plus alone or Juice Plus and also the Vineyard Blend had less vasoconstriction after food an increased fat meal, when compared with people that took a placebo.
We also realize that oatmeal could cause vasodilation of arteries. It could be interesting to find out Juice Plus and oatmeal tested visit head to see which vasodilates bloodstream the most.
The study by Plotnick also noticed Juice Plus promoted a very modest (but significant) reduction in cholesterol levels after 4 weeks (cholesterol changed from 184 to 172).
Interestingly no change in cholesterol as noticed in those that took both Juice Plus as well as the Vineyard Blend (cholesterol was 185 at baseline and 182 after 4 weeks). It might mean that the Vineyard Blend will not be needed.
Inside my own very unscientific “study” a long time ago, I noticed Juice Plus alone (no Vineyard Blend) reduced cholesterol from 260 to 220 after one month. My test subject was in a friend with chronically high cholesterol levels levels. If Juice Plus lowers cholesterol, the outcome is likely variable and would probably be most noticed in those that have high cholesterol.
The gas, nitric oxide supplement (NO) causes vasodilation (opening up of bloodstream). Whilst the study by Plotnick did not directly measure NO levels, it did realize that metabolites of nitric oxide supplement increased after Juice Plus and Vineyard Blend supplementation.
In principle, this could indicate that Juice Plus raises NO levels. Nevertheless, it is actually noteworthy how the researchers stated that “There was no significant correlation in between the 78devfpky within these (nitric oxide supplement) metabolites levels and also the alternation in vasodilation. Quite simply, though metabolites of NO increased, it appeared to play no significant role in vasodilation of bloodstream. I am just unaware of any study showing the Juice Plus raises nitric oxide levels. Since vasodilation did appear to occur after taking Juice Plus, it might be that Juice Plus worked through another cellular pathway.
Keep in mind that the positive effect of Juice plus on blood vessel health was seen regardless if the Vineyard Blend was not taken.

Homocysteine is actually a chemical that damages bloodstream and makes blood sticky. As such, homocysteine has been implicated to get either a signal or manifestation of cardiovascular disease. In 2003 research of Juice Plus and homocysteine was published the Journal of Nutrition.
With this study, 32 men (both smokers and non smokers) were randomly allotted to either a group which received Juice Plus or even a group which received a placebo. Blood samples were taken at regular intervals.
After the research Juice Plus reduced homocysteine levels and raised levels of B vitamins and beta carotene. Theoretically, the lowering homocysteine may mean a lesser likelihood of cardiovascular disease.
This can be contrasted by the results of Panunzioa and associates (2003) who demonstrated that Juice Plus lowered homocysteine levels whenever they studied 26 people for 4 weeks.
Later, in 2007 Kawashima and colleagues studied juice plus in 60 Japanese people for 4 weeks. They likewise noticed Juice Plus lowered homocystine in addition to reducing markers of free radical damage.
Remember, homocystine lowering is controversial in relation to coronary disease. For instance, research finds that lowering homocysteine with vitamin b folic acid does not lessen the risk heart problems.
Results. Both vitamin use and Juice Plus led to “modest” suppression of protein breakdown during exercise after 2 weeks. This really is good because we dont want our muscles being digested for energy during exercise.
Neither Juice Plus or vitamin supplementation reduced degrees of MDA (malondialdehyde) an indicator of oxidative (free radical) stress. This can be ironic since Juice Plus has antioxidants which will reduce free radical stress.
Researchers also noted that neither the vitamin or Juice Plus supplementation altered aerobic performance or decreased how hard exercise felt.
